Host Chris Butler is joined by Alison Cross, Assoc. Director, Virginia Tech Rec Sports, Dr. Sherry Benton, Director of Counseling and David Bowles, Director of Recreation at University of Florida. Join as they discuss creating unique partnerships to foster student success.

David Bowles is the Director of Recreational Sports at the University of Florida where he leads an excellent staff and 700 student employees. David came to UF in 1989, opened two recreation and fitness centers and expanded the Southwest Rec Center twice. He has been the director of RecSports since 2003. A member of NIRSA, Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, since 1984, David has served in various leadership roles for the association, currently serving on the NIRSA Services Corporation Board of Directors and NIRSA’s Commission for Sustainable Communities. Dr. Sherry Benton is the Director of the Counseling and Wellness Center at the University of Florida. She is a licensed and board certified Counseling psychologist and a Clinical Professor. Sherry has over 40 professional publications and is the President Emeritus of the American Academy of Counseling Psychology. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors, and the American Board of Professional Psychology.

Ali Cross is the Associate Director of Campus Recreation Programs at Virginia Tech which involves fitness, wellness, intramural and sport club programs. She came to Virginia Tech as a graduate assistant then worked as the Fitness Coordinator and Assistant Director for Fitness and Assessment. Ali has been a member of NIRSA for 19 years while working in fitness and recreation at the University of Southern Mississippi and Virginia Tech. In her current position, she serves as an instructor for the Human Nutrition Foods and Exercise Department; facilitator for Mentors in Violence Prevention; member of the Healthy Paths Treatment Team; founder and facilitator of the VT How of Happiness programs; committee member for the development of the DSA co-curriculum and race director for the 3.2 Run in Remembrance.
