Dunkel and James A. Baumann to discuss the newly released 6 volume series and how it will help current and future housing professionals in there daily work. Tune in Wednesday 9/25 at Noon. Norb Dunkel serves as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Florida. He provides oversight to Campus Housing, the Reitz Union, and Recreational Sports. Norb has served as President of the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International. He is the co-founder of the National Housing Training Institute which just celebrated its 21st anniversary and is a founding director of the Student Housing Training Institute at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Norb has authored or edited 17 books and monographs and over 40 other articles and papers. He has served as a consultant to over 20 universities and is fortunate to twice testify before U.S. Congressional committees in Washington, D.C. Norb and his wife, Kim, live in Gainesville, Florida and have one son, Nicholas, who is a freshman at the University of Florida.
James A. Baumann is the director of communications and marketing for the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International, a post he has held since 2005. In that role, he and his departmental team oversee a wide variety of projects designed to promote the association and deliver informational resources to its members. Baumann is the editor of Talking Stick magazine and helps oversee The Journal of College & University Student Housing along with ACUHO-I’s website and its social media outlets. As part of the association’s 21st Century Project, Baumann edited the book The 21st Century Project Design Showcase: The Home. He also has served as an association representative to the ACUHO-I Global Housing Summit as well as the Australasian Association of College and University Housing Officers conference and study tour.
Before coming to ACUHO-I, Baumann worked for many years as a freelance writer and graphic designer. He served as a contributing editor with Ohio Magazine, writing about a variety of topics ranging from White Castle hamburgers to metal houses, Etch-A-Sketch factories to nudist camps, Lake Erie tourist sites to Ohio River towns, and basketball players to Bigfoot hunters, with a number of articles recognized with awards from various journalism associations. He is also the author of the book Ohio Cum Laude: The Whole Ohio College Catalogue, which served as a guidebook for high school students to every campus in the state, and co-author (with restaurateur Cameron Mitchell) of the cookbook The Art of the Meal. Baumann has also designed more than two dozen book jackets for The Ohio State University Press.
Baumann holds a bachelor’s degree from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio, as well as a master’s degree from Ohio University in Athens. He currently lives in Westerville, Ohio, just outside of Columbus, with his wife, Leslie, and sons Evan and Alex.
